Our Story

Welcome to our blog! Here's the quick and dirty about us:

Chad and I met on our first day of college at Utah State University. We started studying together, since we were in the same math class and lived in the same apartment building. But, those late-night study sessions quickly turned into excuses to hang out together. And that's how our story began. After two years of dating, we tied the knot on August 17, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

We currently live in Tucson, Arizona. We moved here after living in South Florida for five years, where Chad graduated from medical school and completed his internship year of residency. He is now working for the University of Arizona completing a three-year anesthesiology residency. I was fortunate enough to keep my job from Florida and now work remotely from home. I am the manager of advertising and communications for the business school at Nova Southeastern University.

And--most importantly--Chad and I are thrilled to be parents! Our little angel Reece was born on Jan. 26, 2010 and our handsome little Jace was born on June 30, 2011. We are so blessed to be the mom and dad of such darling and sweet kids.

The Doctor Becomes the Patient

Chad tore his left medial meniscus (see diagram below...for all of you who are like me and not anatomy experts) and had to have surgery yesterday. The tear went all the way from the front of his knee to the back...ugh! So, now Chad gets to wear a big fat brace on his knee and use crutches for 8 weeks! So far, I must say that Chad's been a pretty good patient (surprise). Although it took him hurting his knee 3 times before he actually went to the doctor, thus the extraordinarily bad tear! First injury...trying to beat me in the annual long jump competition at Lake Powell (better luck next time). Second injury...turned his already-injured-knee in a weird position while watching T.V. in bed (I know...that one sounds pretty lame. I should try to come up with a better story!). Third injury...re-re-injured his already-injured-knee playing basketball. Finally, that did it. He came home and yielded--promising to go to the doctor and have it x-rayed. You know what they say; third time's a charm!
Here is Chad on the couch...hooked up to a water pump that helps with the swelling, and carrying his cool "fanny pack!" There is a little ball inside the fanny pack that automatically gives him pain medication through a catheter whenever it deflates. Kind of cool...all this modern-day medical technology!
Well, looking on the bright side...it's probably good for Chad to experience what it's like to be on the other side. As a doctor, he'll be much more empathetic and understanding to his patients having been in the same situation himself. And, the anesthetic drugs really took him for a loop. He's still a little unsettled about not being able to remember anything! :-) We had conversations that he can't recall, and he doesn't even remember being rolled into the O.R.! Kind of crazy...especially since he's going to be the anesthesiologist injecting everyone else with those fabulous drugs one day! :-)

Confined to the couch...good thing it's football season! I guess he's already bored from sitting around all day...I told him to smile and this is the face he gives me.

Don't you love those drug induced conversations! Dave and I had some great ones.

Poor Chad. I'm jealous of his pain killer fanny pack though.

OH, that sucks. I am so sorry to hear that about poor Chad. It sucks to be bed ridden. My advice...play Dr. Mario lots. Good luck with the recovery. Hope it goes well.

Ah poor guy! I hope he feels better soon. You could have gotten some good info and promises during that drugged out time! Hope you took advantage.

Debbie its Ryan--Maybe being confined to the couch will give Chad time to work on your Family Mission Statement!!!!
